Stop the dieting chaos and simplify.

No one has escaped the effects of the pandemic. The increasing unrest and chaos in our societies has lead us to a “new normal”. A year ago, no one could have imagined wearing face-masks, social distancing, and no real hugs - only air hugs - ugh! It could be said that the ever changing health protocols has only added to the uncertainty in what to believe and where we are headed. The same can be said about the diet industry, foods, and nutrition.

Just Google the word “nutrition” and you are bound to find numerous articles from reputable resources but have conflicting arguments from all food groups, another no dairy, or no meat, etc.. So, where do we turn and how do we know which is the best diet to meet all our nutritional needs without feeling stressed and filled with anxiety.  Needless to say, the various conflicting messages can become so overwhelming that we throw our hands up and grab another slice of cheesecake.

Challenge - DRINK WATER!


Make a choice to grab a water and not a soda, juice, or latte. I know the last one is a bit challenging, but needless to say, resist the temptation. My bet is you will feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally.  Start challenging yourself by counting each time you choose water over a sugary beverage. This may seem easier said than done, but one small change can affect many other areas of your nutritional health and wellbeing.  There are numerous benefits to drinking water but here are just a few benefits to incentivize you.


  1. Weight loss - one study showed that drinking water before a meal showed over a 12 week period a 44% greater weight loss verses the non water drinking group. In one study indicated that drinking 500ml of water half an hour before a meal could help middle age and older adults to lose weight.  

  2. Keep your bodies organs healthy - Water keeps your bodies organs, cells, and tissues healthy and in proper working order. 

  3. Increased metabolism -The Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research showed that consuming water increased metabolic rate by 30% in both men and women.

  4. Helps prevent headaches - Keeping fully hydrated can help eliminate or prevent headaches.
